Day Tour Itinerary
Pickup from Sokhna Port
Your Egyptologist guide meets you outside the cruise terminal as soon as you disembark. The drive to the Giza area takes about 2 to 2.5 hours in a private air-conditioned vehicle, and your guide uses the time to introduce the history you are about to see.
Saqqara and the Step Pyramid of Djoser
The first stop is Saqqara, the royal burial ground of ancient Memphis. Here you see the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, designed by the architect Imhotep around 4,600 years ago and the first of Egypt's pyramids. You walk through the colonnaded entrance into its funerary complex and, when open on the day, visit one of the nobles' tombs decorated with scenes of daily life.
Giza Pyramids and the Great Sphinx
Continue to the Giza Plateau for the Great Pyramid of Khufu and the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure. Stop at the panoramic viewpoint for photos of all three pyramids, then head down to the Valley Temple of Khafre and the Great Sphinx. Going inside one of the pyramids is an optional extra paid on site.
Lunch
Take a break for lunch at a local restaurant near the plateau before the afternoon visit.
The Grand Egyptian Museum
Spend the afternoon at the Grand Egyptian Museum, a short drive from the pyramids. You meet the colossal statue of Ramesses II in the Grand Hall, climb the Grand Staircase lined with royal statues, and explore the Tutankhamun galleries, where the boy king's tomb treasures are displayed together as one collection.
